Our Team a member of our Electronics Engineering Team, you will work collaboratively within a team setting to implement innovative new products into our US manufacturing operations. You will be part of group of experienced and dedicated Engineers and Technicians. Day-in and day-out, you will work with people across the organization to not only work to discover new technologies, but also find the most efficient way to get our new products through the development, manufacturing processes and into the hands of the consumer.
Your Role As the Leupold & Stevens Electronics Engineering Manager, you’ll use your extensive EE background to not only provide oversight of the group, but determine the most efficient way to take an idea from concept, through the design process, and into full production. Your responsibility will be not only implementing best practices in procedures and equipment, but also hands on Electronics Engineering project work as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Managerial
Partners with Senior Leadership to define and communicate the strategic roadmap and execution plan related to design of optoelectronic and digital systems. Oversees the design of highly complex systems using automated design systems in order to expand revenues in existing markets and provide new market opportunities for future growth.
Oversees work of project teams. Develops and maintains project schedules and cost estimates required to complete the design and development of new products. Monitors timely completion and/or implementation.
Manages, motivates and develops direct reports within the Electronics Engineering Team.
Coaches others on best practices and appropriate techniques and tools as necessary.
Leads the exploration of components, devices and/or processes that are not currently employed by Leupold & Stevens. Acts as technical expert, provides technical expertise, mentorship and guidance to direct reports and other engineers.
Determines feasibility of possible designs based upon theoretical input from Optical Engineering, Research and Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, and outside consultants. Oversees resolution of issues regarding conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, difficult coordination requirements, and timeline constraints.
Leads and/or performs expert level design work focused on electronic hardware, firmware, and software. Designs, analyzes, tests, documents and develops specifications for electronic components, subassemblies and devices. Develops electronics packaging and EMI shielding requirements and design.
Provides requirements for design tools and laboratory test instrumentation and equipment.
Provides expert level support. Interprets and explains complex concepts and advises and educates managers, technical and non-technical professionals.
Monitors the work of retained consultants and others with specialized expertise.
Works cross-functionally with other departments to ensure consistency in focus and a high degree of success with proposed ideas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is performed in an office environment and may include exposure to the manufacturing processes. Requires extensive travel and trade show activities, which may require stooping, bending, reaching with the hands and arms and standing for periods of time. Employee would occasionally be required to lift and/or carry objects up to 20 pounds or lift and/or carry objects exceeding 35 pounds with assistance and subject to company health and safety guidelines.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Software Engineering or Science discipline with 10+ years design related experience required. Master’s Degree strongly preferred. Minimum of 5 years in a technical leadership/management role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated expertise with specialized and complex engineering concepts, principles, practices and procedures. In-depth knowledge of optoelectronic system design and attributes.
Strong technical leadership ability with significant experience in all aspects of the optical and optoelectronic product development, fabrication and testing cycle.
Understanding of visual optics, coatings, prisms, filters, detectors and lasers. Experience with visual optical systems design for products such as telescopes, riflescopes, laser rangefinders and binoculars highly desirable.
Experience with ballistic solvers or shooting solution simulations highly desirable.
Demonstrated ability to function as an internal resource, mentor, and technical expert.
Ability to plan/lead large complex projects and oversee the work of cross-functional project teams.
Experience with NPI or other new product development processes required. LEAN enterprise experience preferred.
Strong written skills with demonstrated ability to produce proposals and submittals for reviewing agencies.
Excellent decision making, problem solving and organizational skills.
Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively across functions to achieve outcomes that support business objectives.
Knowledge of shooting sports, hunting, firearms and associated optics strongly preferred.
