Browning, an industry leader in the hunting and shooting outdoor industry, is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer who will be highly involved in the quality control processes of Browning brand firearms. This position is located at the Browning Service and Distribution Center in Arnold, Missouri (just 20 minutes from St. Louis) where the heart of “Quality for Browning” is located. This position reports to our Arnold Quality Manager.
The Browning Quality Engineering position is critical to Browning quality control processes. This position works directly in conjunction with the Winchester Quality team and is responsible for following, managing, and protecting standards, specifications and procedures. Repeated and accurately performed tasks are crucial to the success of both the Quality Department and the Browning Company.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility is to perform audits, product testing, and warranty support for Browning firearms products to ensure compliance with Browning firearms standards. Information will be communicated in a technical and professional manner, utilizing statistical analysis and root cause analysis principles. Communications will be to both internal and external sites and departments.
The candidate must show the ability to efficiently troubleshoot problems and identify root causes related to product design, customer use, and manufacturing processes. In order to accomplish this task, the individual must be familiar with Browning products and the mechanics and operation of firearms in general.
Job Duties Summary:
•Troubleshoot and determine root cause of non-standard firearm behavior. •Measure and analyze firearm components for print conformance. •Participate in product audits, at all Browning and Winchester facilities. •Describe quality performance through statistics. •Participate in product qualification at all Browning and Winchester facilities. •Write of technical reports, processes, and procedures. •Manage and schedule daily product audits. •Participate in resolution of quality issues with factory and supply vendors. •Extensive shooting, both in power and quantity, including large gauge and caliber firearms. •Manage both domestic and international relationships with the production facilities and intercompany departments.
Competency-based Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate for this position must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both domestically and internationally. Building and managing positive internal and external relationships is critical to the efficiency of the position. Travel will be a normal part of the responsibilities (approximately 50 days per year). The Quality Engineer would be expected to participate in product qualifications, factory audits, and meetings both domestic and internationally. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, organized and a team player. The person selected must enjoy learning, and have a passion for the hunting and shooting outdoor industry. The candidate should have a keen balance between creating excellent working relationships while being respectfully firm and strictly adhering to established standards and procedures. They must be very critically minded, consistent and reliable.
Physical strength is required to perform rigorous, repeated and extensive test shooting that includes large gauge loads and magnum calibers.

A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering is required plus 3-5 years experience. Technical firearms expertise and a desire to establish high quality standards is an added plus for this position.
