Kimber Mfg., Inc., a leading firearms manufacturer principally located in Westchester County, NY, is seeking an experienced and motivated attorney to serve as its General Counsel (GC) in its small, dedicated legal department. The GC position is located at Kimber’s Troy, AL location. The GC will handle a diverse and broad spectrum of legal matters as needed by Kimber and provide timely business oriented legal support and recommendations to Kimber’s varied operational units and senior management.
About the Candidate: The candidate should be a solid corporate generalist. Knowledge of federal and state firearms laws and experience practicing in a regulatory and/or manufacturing environment would be strongly preferred but not required. Prior in-house experience is strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate must:
Have experience practicing law in a broad spectrum of areas including commercial contracts, product liability, employment law, corporate governance and other legal areas associated with a durable goods manufacturer.
Knowledgeable on insurance, risk mitigation and IP management.
Possess ability to analyze issues and provide practical, business oriented remedies.
Possess ability to work on regulatory interpretive issues, enforcement actions, legislative monitoring and governmental affairs.
Possess high degree of business literacy and sophistication with respect to financial and commercial matters.
Serve as core advisor to the executive management team, counseling on legal and related matters.
Become very familiar with Kimber’s products and services, its contractual relationships and the applicable regulations.
Possess the flexibility and willingness to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
Ability and willingness to travel extensively to Westchester, NY location as needed by company.
Requirements: Candidates for this position must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and have actively been engaged in the practice of law for not less than ten (10) years with an emphasis on corporate law. Prior in-house experience strongly preferred. Must be admitted to AL Bar and gain admission to NY as may be necessary. Experience with shooting and handling firearms is a plus.
