Position purpose:The Executive Director is the top leadership position at the NRA Whittington Center. The Executive Director position is responsible for the NRA Whittington Center's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. This position is unique in that a high level of customer service, organization, oral, written and people skills are critical to success.
Essential responsibilities: Executive Director duties include, but are not limited to: ? Assure that the NRA Whittington Center has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress. ? Provide leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans with the board of trustees. ? Prepare and submit reports to the Board of Trustees, and present a director's report during the bi-annual trustee meeting. ? Implement and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board of Trustees. ? Oversee NRA Whittington Center's federal firearms license (FFL) and dedicate a 'responsible person' in charge of maintaining official records, documents and bound book, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. ? Oversee and participate in planning all aspects of organized and special events including but not limited to donor appreciation weekend. ? Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends within the shooting sports and outdoor recreation fields. ? Keep the Board of Trustees fully informed on the condition of the NRA Whittington Center and all factors influencing it. ? Publicize the activities, programs and goals of the NRA Whittington Center. ? Represent the NRA Whittington Center to agencies, organizations, media outlets and the general public. ? In conjunction with overarching NRA employment policies, oversee the recruitment, employment and management of all personnel, both paid and volunteer staff. ? Ensure job descriptions are accurate and up to date, oversee annual employee evaluations and that sound human resources practices are in place and upheld (in conjunction with NRA human resources division). ? Ensure that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place. ? Maintain a work environment which attracts, keeps and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people. ? Maintain sound financial practices. ? Prepare a budget, ensure that the NRA Whittington Center operates within budgetary guidelines.

General qualifications: Must have experience in business management and supervisory skills. Must have knowledge in multiple shooting disciplines and competitive shooting sports. Must be eligible to have unrestricted access to firearms and ammunition. Finalist will be subject to pre-employment background checks.
Compensation and employment structure: The NRA Whittington Center Executive Director position is an exempt position which reports to the NRA Whittington Center's Board of Trustees and NRA headquarters. Additionally, this position requires extensive interaction with the public. Exceptional oral, written and people skills are required.
