The Director of Product Development shall lead Steiner eOptics’ New Product Development team to ensure successful launches of new products. This includes introductions into the commercial, military, and LE markets including process development/implementation, collaboration with manufacturing, materials, sales, and engineering departments through the full product development gated development cycle.
Oversee all Steiner eOptics’ Product Development Projects to bring to market on schedule and to budget.
Responsible for New Product Development Product Roadmap and corresponding strategies
Manage all New Product Development projects through new product development gated process.
Prepare project timelines and identify all resource requirements.
Evaluate new products for manufacturability and financials.
Monitor status of all new products and ensure effective execution of projects according to required policies, procedures, government and military regulations.
Develop and implement manufacturing plans for new products which includes clear transition to production with work instructions, quality control documents, work process flows, etc.
Work with Ohio Manufacturing Engineers to manage communication across offices and departments for smooth transition of new products through successful LRIP (Low Rate Initial Production).
Develop product test plans and perform production tests according to manufacturing process instructions.
Manage integration of all products according to product life cycle.
Monitor operations of product and evaluate designs to ensure adherence to all design & mfg. principles.
Work with engineering team to assist in the transition of design prototypes into final products.
Provide technical support to Materials Management team for RFP initiatives and administer effective use of outsourced products.
Analyze and recommend improvements to new product development processes and methods to facilitate cost reduction and quality improvement.
Coordinate with senior management clearly communicating product status and risk mitigation plans to achieve deliverables
S. (M.S. preferred) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Optical Engineering.
5+ years of relevant Mechanical, Electrical, or Optical design work experience.
Experience moving a product from prototype through it’s life cycle.
Experience preferred if have already led a R&D or Product Development team
Strong ability to lead R&D engineers in a highly technical environment with success
Expertise in developing products from prototype to production
Exceptional written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills with ability to work in groups
Ability to communicate to technical and non-technical internal customers
Possesses a “DRIVE” mentality
