EasyExport™ is seeking a Director of Export Compliance Operations.
This is a full-time work-from-home position that is perfect for an experienced firearms industry export licensing and export compliance professional who wants to apply those skills as a senior manager in an exciting high-technology environment.
The Director of Export Compliance Operations will manage EasyExport's system operations, working under the direction of the Executive Director, Compliance and Operations and the CEO.
EasyExport is a unique, new automated export processing system that enables online sellers of firearms, parts, optics and accessories in the U.S. to ship safely and lawfully to customers in 82 countries. With EasyExport, online merchants who have been barred by regulatory complexity from selling to international customers can finally tap into the global ecommerce boom and add 20% or more to their top-line revenues. Culminating two and a half years of software development, the first three merchants will begin using EasyExport to process exports in July 2021.
EasyExport’s software instantly analyzes international online orders, identifying U.S. export license and destination country import permit requirements. EasyExport system operators – export-compliance specialists with deep firearms industry experience – vet and approve international purchasers, prepare and submit export licenses, review import permits and provide export-import “Help Desk” services to EasyExport merchants. EasyExport enables merchants with no export training or in-house compliance capabilities to export large numbers of orders to dealers, individuals and other lawful purchasers efficiently and in accordance with the best compliance standards in the industry.
The primary responsibilities of the Director of Export Compliance Operations, will include the following:
Learn EasyExport’s proprietary methods for all activities performed by system operators and take the lead in continuously improving these methods.
Manage and supervise the Company’s staff of system operators and the work they perform, as described above, pitching in as a system operator as workload requires.
Lead and manage the “Operations” side of the Company’s business in collaboration with the CEO, Executive Director of Compliance and Operations and the Director of Export-Import Classification.
Train, supervise and participate in the hiring of the Company’s system operators.
Oversee the preparation and submission of export licenses.
Oversee the review and approval of import permits required by destination countries.
Run down and, when possible, resolve apparent matches from restricted party screens.
Manage system operators to achieve specified performance metrics.
Assist in managing workflow in System Operations to consistently meet Company performance metrics.
Resolve issues escalated by system operators, involving the Executive Director of Compliance and Operations, CEO and other colleagues as required.
Interact with BIS and DDTC staff as required in connection with license applications.
Manage the Company’s provision of non-technical Help Desk services to merchants.
Vet and approve international purchasers and changes to purchasers’ profiles in accordance with the Company’s proprietary procedures.
Interact with and assist purchasers throughout the Company’s service territory in connection with questions relating to purchaser registration, firearm permits, business licenses, import permits and other matters relating to operation of the EasyExport system.
Become proficient at communicating with purchasers in foreign languages using translation tools made available by the Company.
Use translation tools provided by the Company to translate foreign-language documents provided by purchasers.
Assist in the creation and maintenance of instructional materials for purchasers and modifications to purchaser-facing user interfaces in the Company’s software.
As requested, write blogs and other materials to support the Company’s marketing programs.
Stay current with relevant portions of the Export Administration Regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations, Schedule B and HTS codes and import regulations in EasyExport’s service territory.
Collaborate with EasyExport’s data scientists and software engineers in the improvement of EasyExport’s technology and methods.
Participate in the creation, maintenance and improvement of documentation and training materials pertaining to EasyExport’s system operations.
Assist in the preparation of voluntary disclosures and voluntary self-disclosures when requested.
Communicate with EasyExport partners in other countries as required.
Collaborate with other members of EasyExport’s management team and staff.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of compliance best practices by EasyExport’s operations team.
Participate in new-customer training and the continuous improvement of the Company’s training materials.
The ideal candidate will have:
3 or more years of recent hands-on experience with export licensing and export compliance in the firearms industry, including experience since the transition of regulatory jurisdiction over non-military firearms and ammunition to the Commerce Department in March 2020.
Desire to adapt export compliance and license skills to an automated environment.
Extensive familiarity with the ITAR, EAR, Schedule B and HTS codes.
Strong work ethic.
