The Category Marketing Manager will fuel the marketing teams with passion and insightful direction ensuring we always stay competitive, are responsive to our target consumer’s needs, and strategically position our ecommerce and product brands.
We are a growing and evolving company managing multiple ecommerce websites across various industries as well as many proprietary brands. There’s never a dull moment when you are developing strategies and implementing them across some of the largest ecommerce destinations in America, including OpticsPlanet.com, CampSaver.com, Dvor.com and more! We carry over 4,500 brands across 2000+ different product categories.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as a one of the subject matters expert for the Firearms/Sporting Goods industry.
- Develop category and product marketing plans in partnership with Product Development and Supply Chain teams.
- Plan the contextual calendar for each market and collaborate with marketing teams to develop consumer facing strategies and campaigns.
- Own and improve our stores’ taxonomies, product classification strategy, and product presentation across stores.
- Partner with Product Management to create and deploy promotional and seasonal plans maximizing sales for strategic, proprietary and exclusive products.
- Provide recommendation for the company to evolve product assortment strategy and plan.
- Perform market research and stay current with industry trends related to competitor’s strategies, product and technology releases, and consumer needs to provide effective insights and aid in decision making.
- Assist in content development by either providing industry insights, product/category knowledge, or participating in content creation projects.
- Audit promotional/advertising messaging and creative for our strategic audience segment targets.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills & Requirements
- 5 Years minimum professional experience in either the sporting goods, firearms, hunting, law enforcement, military, or greater/specialty outdoor industries is preferred.
- Previous experience in ecommerce or retail environment in a leadership, category management and/or marketing role.
- Deep technical understanding of and familiarity with shooting-related products, especially parts and accessories.
- Leadership and mentorship experience.
- Effective and professional communicator with ability to explain and align stakeholders, partners, and leadership.
- Strong collaborative skills, able to express viewpoints and importance but able to compromise to build consensus around vision and plan.
- High comfort level with software and technology especially Microsoft Office, internet, and analytics/performance reporting tools.
- Some travel may be required.
